Levels of Ecology
Ecosystem
An ecosystem is all the species that live together and interact with each other and the environment. The Taylor Wells oil spill would affect an entire ecosystem. Every level in a food web from the primary producers to the tertiary consumers would be affected. The abiotic factors such as water, wind, and temperature would be affect by the oil spill as well.
Biome
A biome has everything in a ecosystem but more. It consists of a group of ecosystems. The Taylor Wells could be looked at affecting a biome perspective since the oil could affect both land and marine ecosystems. The ecosystem would be directly impacted by the oil released from the wells. The land ecosystem could also be infected by birds from the ocean that flew to their land affecting animals around them. Ocean currents and water can also spread the oil to far away places and sometimes the shores.
Biosphere
Another perspective the oil spill could be studied at is from a biosphere, the entire planet. The oil that contaminated the water would be affecting the water cycle with ruining the freshwater and possibly causing acid rain. The acid rain could precipitate globally affecting any from land ecosystems to another marine ecosystem in a different ocean.
